By Hannah Northey
Incumbent Matt Lohr, R-Broadway, won a second term to the House of Delegates on
Tuesday, easily defeating Harrisonburg City Councilwoman Carolyn Frank.
Lohr, who was elected to the 26th District House seat two years ago in a bitter
battle with Democrat Lowell Fulk, cruised to victory Tuesday with 71 percent of
the vote. Frank, who ran as an independent, received about 29 percent,
according to unofficial results.
The district includes Harrisonburg and parts of Rockingham County .
“We went to Richmond and did our best the first two years,” Lohr said. “To come
back and increase our margin of victory means that people believe in what we’re
trying to accomplish.
In the coming term, Lohr said, he’ll be working on legislation to preserve
farmland, improve teen driving, and deal with immigration issues.
“Those are a few issues we will be adddressing this session," he said.Lohr, 36,
a farmer and former member of the Rockingham County School Board, was first
elected to the House in November 2005.
Lohr serves on the Agriculture, Chesapeake and Natural Resources Committee, the
Education Committee, and the Counties, Cities, and Towns Committee.
Frank, 54, a communications technician for Verizon, is serving her second term
on the Harrisonburg City Council.
Frank said she appreciated the voters who went out on a cold and windy day.
“I respect what the people said,” Frank said. “It’s hard to run as an
independent, but that’s where my heart is. It’s with the people.
